Default Terence Donovan Exhibition

I went to see the Terence Donovan Exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery in their new posh premises off Oxford Street, London. It is over two floors. There are actual magazines under glass with his photos and lots of HUGE enlargements and actual Contact Prints in a frame under glass. Also, a membership card of Bethnal Green Camera Club and his award-winning print in that Club ! I was in Barking Photographic Society when he was in Bethnal Green CC. He CAME to Barking PS in his Rolls Royce and ate fish 'n' Chips from a shop in Ripple Road Barking before the meeting -- I took a photo of him on Tri-x which I processed in Microphen to 'Push' it -- NOT a good combination I found out as Tri-X does NOT like Microphen but I show it anyway ----

Doesn't look that bad to me, Pete. One of the advantages of living in Brentwood is that London and all its exhibitions are within a short distance

Yes -- at that same meeting at Barking PS I WON a copy of his Pirelli Calendar done with his Pentax 6x7 and he autographed it -- it is tucked into a space at teh back of my enlarger bench now -- a bit 'dusty' --

Went to see the Terry Donovan exhibition yesterday and I thought it was very good.

The exhibition covered two floors of the Photographers Gallery and there was a wide selection of his work from across his working life.

What I was particularly impressed by was to see some of his working books - his notes about the days shoot - subject/camera/lighting layout/exposure/.... plus some of the contact sheets from the resulting films.

We rarely get to see the workings of photographers, only the finalised image.

If you have a spare couple of hours in central London its definitely worth it.

Martin
