I normally carry a sports-cap bottle of water in the car. Normally it's filled with tap water, and i don't worry about its "use-by" date. It seems potable whenever I need it, and that may be several weeks after filling from the kitchen tap. I did try bottled water for the same duty, and that quickly became very obviously unpleasant and tainted. A little chlorine is obviously a good thing in this usage.

A chemistry teacher was conducting an experiment. He placed a glass of water and a glass of whisky on the bench, and dropped a wriggling worm in each. After one minute the worm in the whisky was dead, but the worm in the water was still wriggling.
He asked the class what conclusion they could draw from this, and a kid on the front row said "If you've got worms, drink whisky" Alan |
