Default Back from Greece

We have been travelling around the Saronic Gulf in Greece for five weeks.
Got back for couple of days ago now and started to dev my film.

We had a great time socially but photographically it was a bit disappointing for me, cloudless blue sky 99% of the time. On top of that I've lost a box of exposed film about 55 sheets! I'm sure this happened at Athens airport as security had everything out of my rucksack in a great pile and I had to plead with them not to open the boxes and remember seeing that box there.

Next time we go I must travel lighter and will most probably won't take a view camera, I may just take the Mamiya 7 kit. I got the Mamiya as a travel camera but it seems that I may addicted to view cameras. The L/F gear is fine when I'm on my own but when traveling with Maureen in the last couple of years it's a bit of a pain as she has a doggy knee and I have do the luggage carrying, Im over 25 now! and getting on and off the Flying Dolphins is a real fun.
Booked the flights for next years trip five minutes ago in a moment of weakness.

JON.

Welcome back Jon.

What a blow about the loss of the 55 sheets of exposed film - something one could do without. Is there any chance of contacting Athens security to see if they have it?

Anyway good to hear the social side was OK.

Neil.

I'd be devastated not to mention fuming. Unfortunately I fear that even if they could locate the box somebody will have been nosey and had a peek inside.

Thanks Neil, I've already been in touch with Athens airport and they say their looking in to it, there is a slim chance they will find the box.
Your right Andy what's the first thing someone would do, open the box!

55 sheets - that's devastating news. A whole holiday's worth of shots.

With a bit of luck the boxes are still there and at worst the "finder" has enough sense to open only one and realise that the rest has to be some form of film and not go any further.

Jon, sorry to hear the trip to Greece wasn't too hot photographically. The loss of a box of 55 sheets of film is a real nightmare. Such tales have put me off from travelling abroad with the 4x5. So far I've only taken the 6x9 view camera as its much easier to transport and keep tabs on roll film.

Hope you've got some gems in the other 4 boxes

You're obviously made of sterner stuff than me Jon. I find even MF gear too much on a family holiday and have resolved to limit myself to 35mm when travelling with wife or family. A large format trip doesn't bear thinking about.

I have had a similar problem in Athens also.
Not so devastating as Jon's experience, but along similar lines.
I hope you were able to resolve your problem.
Best wishes,
Tortoise
