Default 6x9 enlargers?

Are there any 6x6 (80mm) enlargers that will do 6x9 or will I necessarily need to go for a 5x4 enlarger? (if that makes sense).

Yes, there are medium format enlargers upto 6x9cms.
Although, good enlargers upto 6x9 may be more difficult to find and even more expensive than a 5x4 model.

Funny this one should come up as I have just acquired a 6x9 camera and plan to use it soon. Fortunately I have a 5x4 enlarger so the plan is to make up a 6x9 mask.

Absolutely - I've used both the Durst M800 and Magnifax, they are excellent enlargers, well designed and reliable. The Durst however is the more robust.

I use the Magnifax 4 for all my printing, a solid and reliable machine that I can highly reccomend. I use the 6x9 mixing chamber for all formats and mine has the multigrade head with adjustable ND filters.

I believe 6x9 is only possible with the 203 Varicon (condenser) head model. IIRC the Colour Head and Ilford MG head models only go to 6x7. I own a 203 with the Ilford 500H Head and have never seen a 6x9 mixing box. Hence why I shall be using the 504.

Thanks for the input guys. For my sins, I do signficant research and contemplation before I make a decision (which I'll probably change at the last moment) on what to purchase - playing with combinations of as appropriate. Having used a 504 at college and with a background wish to play with 5x4 that would be the obvious choice - but budgets, space, etc etc, may push me down an interim step. (I know there are other 5x4 enlargers and I'm keeping a watchful eye on them too).
