Default Docklands in 1981 by Peter Marlow

Just read that there is an exhibition of Peter Marlow's night photographs of this area of London. Looking at his biog (http://www.petermarlow.com/) it seems he has been shooting square since the 1990s but earlier work was on 35mm. The Wapping series were a series of night photos, all in B&W and printed on Ilford Galerie.

30 images here on the Magnum site, 11 photos at wallpaper.com. Exhibition is on until 10th January 2010 at Bankside, 65a Hopton Street, London SE1 9LR.

Might have to go see that when I'm in London over christmas. I remember going to those docks at night when I was younger after reading 'The ruby in the smoke', and being horribly creeped out!

Some great and atmospheric night shots here. I know nothing of Docklands, then or now but looking at the pics rightly or wrongly reminds me of " The Long Good Friday" made in 78/79 with Bob Hoskins where the gangster character played by Bob is looking to develop docklands and predicting a great future for London and docklands - somewhat prophetically as things turned out in the 1980s with Mrs Thatch and the "loadsamoney" zeitgeist.
