Typical. I don't shoot colour but my daughter asked me just the other day to get her some colour print film. I was shocked by the prices I saw (and lack of availability). I'm relieved in a way that others have noted similar and it's not just me being a bit dumb.

About 18 months ago I actually gave away the last couple of Poundland films I had lurking in my fridge - should have kept them by the sound of things.

I think my daughter will have to wait until stocks improve...and prices come down a bit.

A little message at the Boots basket tells you " very popular, 9 sold today."
I typed in a quantity of 20 to see what happened, it seemed quite happy.
Needles to say I immediately cleared the basket.

Even Charley Clore would have hesitated at those prices.

Good Hunting.
Boots the chemist are always a lot more expensive than anywhere else for film, I remember a while ago and a delivery of film was late, so I went to our local Boots branch, they were stocking Ilford film, and I nearly did a backflip at the price, £7.99 for a roll of HP5+, both 35mm 24 exp same for 120, I didn't dare look at 35mm36 exposure

I bought a pair of ready-readers at Poundland a while back. Nothing remarkable, except that they cost a pound.
A day or two later I was in the prescription queue at Boots and my wife was looking at sunglasses. "you were looking for spectacles, weren't you", she said. So I went to the display rack and there they were, specs just like mine - identical in every detail. All the specs in the rack were £18!
My (Bangladeshi) pharmacist pal tells me that Boots markup is typically high on most products, which sets an industry price standard and makes it possible for small independent pharmacies to compete and prosper. Boots is part of the US Walgreen group.
By the way, I once made a long-focus lens out of a 2.0 dioptre spectacle glass, a cardboard tube and lots of gaffer tape. Rather low in contrast because there was lots of light bouncing around inside the tube but resolution not bad. The focal length of a 2.0 dioptre lens is 500mm, so 38mm diameter is about f/13.

To be fair, they do sell some very specialised and unusual films. I've just ordered some Kodak Gold at £14 for a pack of 3, and their postage is a fraction of the extortionate £7.99 charged by Firstcall.

I too had to pay the high price of postage charged by Firstcall recently, and I only needed one item, but they were the only place that had it.

But the item was received the next day, as it came by courier, so this would explain the price.

If you can leave it until you need a few items, then the p/p charge doesn't seem so high, as long as their item prices are well priced.

I rarely stick with just one seller, as it depends on the final price you have to pay, including any p/p at the end.

I buy my film from Process Supplies, normally 20 rolls at a time, and they charge what it costs them for the postage, normally £10 to Jersey, but to be fair to Firstcall for small amounts of Film, sa 20 rolls, they charge £5.50 postage, and £7.99 is about the same as most others that send by courier, you get next day delivery, and if you wait and place a big order, say £150,200 which is very easy to do, then not bad and same as most other suppliers, for me, living in Jersey, carriage is £15.5 which works out cheaper than most, one of the reasons I stopped ordering fro AG was the carriage, they quote £19 to me, I admit I get 99% of everything other than film from Firstcall as they are they only firm that I have never had problem's with, they simply do what they say, everything arrives 2 days after ordering via DPD, others I have waited up to a week for delivery, including Silverprint AG, and RK, that I have bought from over the years,

I used to get a bit miffed at postage costs but eventually reconciled myself to the fact that sending parcels is not free and neither is the packaging used (a double-wall box can easily exceed £1 alone). If I had a suitable shop within reasonable distance of me (say within 30 mins or so - sadly these days, having anything even that close has become a luxury) it would cost petrol and (quite likely) city-centre parking charges which could easily come to a similar amount. I do try to build up a larger order where the postage is either free or becomes an increasingly smaller percentage of the total cost.

In the last few days I have just purchased some Fujicolor C200.
36 exposure.
Process date, before 2023.06

Look for Cambrian Photography. Located in Colwyn Bay, Wales, UK.

£5.99p a roll plus shipping and tax.

Not the cheapest, but if you need C200 it is a source.

Usual disclaimers etc.

Cheers.
