I've had a picture published!
I was at our local village fete last weekend and out of nowhere a freak wind lifted several of the gazebos and sent them sailing over the field - one went several hundred yards away across the river.
I managed to get some pictures and sent a scan of the film to our local newspaper - and bless them they used one. I know I should really have gone into the darkroom and prepared a print to send to the news desk - maybe next time.. Anyway - here is the picture they used. Martin |

Excellent, but I hope you charged them for usage.

Well done.
If it is anything like our local paper there will be no payment as you should be "honoured" that they chose to use it. Bill |

Well done Martin. I suspect you'd have been given no extra thanks for doing a print. Maybe they'd have had a moan about the extra time needed for a print. Newspapers want things instantly.
In that trade the memorial service for all things analogue was very short and no tears were shed. Mike |

That's good news ....
Now isn't that thrilling news !!!! No matter how good a photographer one may be, nothing can compare with the thrill of having his work actually published. Cheers !!!

There's certainly a frisson of excitement when a photograph is published. Although a couple of my pictures have appeared in the local press, this hasn't been for some years. The reason is that they reserve the right to do with them whatever they will without seeking further permission from the photographer. Financial considerations aside, I think this is most discourteous. Each week pictures from readers appear, and the thought that the newspaper publishers could use them in whatever way they wished as many times as they wished anoys me. If they would only state that they will publish a picture from a reader but contact him/her before making further use of it, I think more people would feel inclined to submit photographs.

Some competitions are as free with photographer's images as this. So they (the organisers of the competition) get a selection of royalty free images for nothing.... Fume!
