I always store my film holders with the darkslides in.

I tend to keep my film holders loaded - so removing the darkslides would tend to defeat the object

It is important not to put pressure on the darkslides - so as not to distort or even fracture them - which will do real damage the light traps (plush seals).

Darkslides in for me too with each holder kept in a kitchen food bag, the type with the slide sealer.

Never had any dust or sticking slide problems

It may be that slide=out is recommended for older plush made from felt but I assume nowadays it is probably plastic so more durable. I store 4x5 holders with the slide in with the holder in a sealable plastic bag (I need to get some good ones like Neil's - mine are currently just the cheap Tesco ones with the rubbish seal that tear after a few uses )

I recently bought a couple of neoprene cases for film holders. They come from China via eBay. They have a fold over top, and come in various sizes. I think they will be good for protecting the holders in a bag. They are not of the highest quality, but are very cheap and do the job. They also arrived within a week which amazed me.

Recently, I've invested in the Silvestri film holder bags. I wanted something dedicated for the job for both 4x5 and 8x10. Needless to say, I prefer them to my previous zip lock bags as they offer greater protection and accessibility when out in the field.

Snap Alex!

Mine were made in China so I'm pretty sure they'll be exactly the same bags but mine just have a Silvestri sticker put on the side!

Anti-static bags for computer parts maybe an option for storage of your film holders, anyone using them?

I have eight 5x4 film holders that I bought new 37 years ago. I have always stored them with the slides in, and they are still light-tight. If a film holder has no film in it I keep the darkslide in but have the hinged flap on the end opened out, so I know later that there is no film in the holder.
I keep my film holders in padded envelopes, which are light, cheap, and offer good protection.

I keep all my film holders in Lakeland Lock and Lock food storage containers - cheep, dust proof, water proof, compact and stackable.

I'm amazed at the price of dedicated photographic Film Holder pouches are.

I got some funny looks at my local Lakeland shop when I was trying out the different sizes to work out which one I needed.
