Default Comparing meters

I decided to compare my Gossen meters (Lunasix 3 and Lunalite SBC) against my old Praktica LLC meter today , Both Gossen meters gave the same reading ( f4 /250 @ 400asa ) when directed at a wall in shade and the the Praktica gave f5.6/250 @ 400asa so out of interest I dug out a few other cameras (a Praktica LTL,two chinon CE4-s and a Minolta 505si ) all cameras fitted with 50mm lens . The four other cameras all agreed with the Praktica LLC at f5.6/250 @ 400asa

So considering that all meter reading where taken of the same subject under approximately the same lighting conditions from roughly the same point of view why the different readings from the Gossens versus the onboard metering systems ?

I don't know about the Gossen meters, but fairly sure my Praktica LTL has a centre-weighted metering pattern, and it's likely that the other SLRs do as well.

Hi Paul - what batteries are you using in the Gossens? I think I am right in thinking they operated on the old mercury ones, in which case if you're using 1.5v silver oxides (et al) in there that could be the problem.
I had to get a little doodad from Gossen that converts 1.5v's to something more suitable, to fit in my Lunasix 3S.
You could try contacting Gossen directly - they're very helpful.

The Gossen adapter is available at The Small Battery Company.

Now that's something that didn't occur to me , thanks Ian I think I might repeat the exercise but use the spot meter function on the Minolta and see how that compares .

Hi Phil , The lunalite uses a 9 volt PP3 battery so not a problem , The Lunasix still has the standard mercury battery's installed though they seem to be OK .
