Can anyone recommend a good book about the Leica-M series of cameras?

M3 through to MP etc.

Hi Keith

As a recent convert to Leica M I found Brian Bowers books useful. I am not into LPM charts and all that stuff so found these probably the most used. Another is Gunter Osterloh. Again a book I can just dip in and out of.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leica-Photog...ds=brian+bower

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leica-Lens-B...ds=brian+bower

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leica-Advanc...ywords=leica+m

They all come up on the auction site quite regular.

Regards

Steve

Unfortunately Gunter Osterloh's fine volume does not cover the MP as it was published before the latest MP was produced (2003). When I got my MP in 2006 the dealer gave me a copy of:

Leica MP - Questions & Ansers. Johnathan Easton. Covers the MP adequately.

Osterloh's book covers the the rest, M3 to M7, also the CL.

My copy (2nd Edition, 2011) does cover the MP. ISBN = 978-1-4547-0069-2. Highly recommended.

The most comprehensive tome on all things Leica, including it's history, is Erwin Puts's 'Leica Compendium'. 600 pages of detailed information! ISBN = 978-94-91089-05-3.

Thanks Keith. Another interesting tome is the series called "Leica Manual". My earliest edition is from 1937 is a wonderful read - all 502 pages. It also has some great developer recipes and info on darkrooms. I think the last edition was around 1973.
