Default Berlin - photography locations

I am off to Berlin for a week on Tuesday and would welcome any recommendations on places to visit (and photograph).
I am going with the wife so will need a good argument for visiting a particular place (eg it is also good for shopping, which is my standard response)!!

Thanks, David

old and new shopping arcades often make for some really interesting archtectural photography but I would have thought avoiding places where the wife can spend money would be a good thing.

If he sees this he may respond here but if not then maybe David Allen who is a Berlin resident might be reached via a PM

Have a good week

Mike

Hi David,

send me a PM with where you are staying, how long you will be in Berlin and how many shopping hours your wife can manage per day.

Also let me know what you like to photograph.

There are also a few tips for seeing a lot of the city cheaply on a standard bus that gives a good introduction to the city but does prevent both shopping and photography (apart from out of the window of a double decker bus).

Bests,

David.

Westhafen has some brutal architecture - I have snapped the silos[1] from across the river, which can produce some striking geometric shapes.

I don't think Prince Charles would like those silos ... I do like industrial buildings, in particular cooling towers while discharging greenhouse gases.

Argentum, did my wife contact you to say shopping arcades ? She does have her sights set on the KaWaDe, which I understand is the Harvey Nics of Berlin.

David, pm sent. Thanks.

Cooling towers discharge water vapours, not "greenhouse gasses" - That said, I agree they can be fun to photograph.

One place that would satisfy both would be the Sony Centre located next to Potsdamer Platz - Food, wine, beer, shopping, and photography all under one wacky roof

A short walk away, you can find (a relocated) Checkpoint Charlie complete with "guards" to pose with.

David, KaWade has a ring to it that would be appropriate as the last strangled sound you make when you see the bill .

NO. English real ales are the best beers in the world.

Hook Norton Best Bitter and Wadworth 6X are two of the very best.

Mind you, I am biased since I was weened on these two beers. But then again, I've worked in Germany and Weiss Beer is truly disgusting.
