Default Street Portraits- variation on a theme

I have adopted a different way of approaching street photography which has proven to be quite rewarding. H. Cartier- Bresson shot his subjects candidly but in these changing times I have chosen to ask people if I may take thier pictures and to continue doing what ever it was they were doing. I have had some good results and also fascinating dialogue with those I have approached this way. I have also added a secondary e-mail address which I give them and say that if hey wish to send me thier postal address I will mail them a copy of the print.

I appreciate this type of approach can mean that some of the spontaneity is lost but I feel that it shows common courtesy and with one encounter with a beautiful girl sat outside a cafe bar in Leeds she insisted on taking my picture of me taking her picture. Great fun

I think that's a really nice approach Kenneth particularly in this photography sensitive age.

Sounds like a great approach Kennenth,I Don't tend to do a lot of street portraits, but when I do I always use one of my collection odf classic cameras, which nearly always brings a smile to peoples faces and starts a conversation,if only along the lines of that's an old camera, does it still work?, and brings nice results,Richard

I agree totally Richard and an M6 tends to look quite old fashioned compared todays digital beasts. Also I am 61 which is also quite old in fact the e-mail address which I have created to give out in such circumstances is [email]oldmanwithaleica@**************** which usually raises a smile
