...and received this morning Alex. A fine print taken at the Scottish Maritime Museum. Excellent use of black and white areas to give emphasis on the rope rigging of the boat. I like it very much, simple but effective.

My print should have caught the last post this afternoon.

Lovely print of a Cretan Fishing Net arrived today.
I know what you mean about not getting darkroom time as I only just managed to get into mine yesterday. Thanks David |

And it finally arrived yesterday, Wednesday 29/01/2020, and it was definitely worth the wait.
I have received a lovely print from a project that SanMiguel is doing, about a fellow Photo Club members sheep. The print that I have received is of one of the recently born lambs being bottle fed. It's been taken hand held on his Hasselblad with a 50mm lens, on ID11 developed HP5+, and then printed on Ilford Warmtone FB semi-matt, which has produced a really lovely tone. It's a paper that I've never used, but I do like the overall look very much, so that'll be going on my next order, finances permitting. I also love the square format used and the (very precise) black border given to the print. I'm sure the owner of the sheep would love a copy! So, many thanks for another great print for my collection. Terry S |

And it has just arrived. David has sent me three prints of a very nice, and very busy harbour scene. My immediate thought was that I had visited this place, but I was confusing it with Padstow. The prints are on Fotospeed Pro Art paper. I’ve never seen this before. It has a very attractive fine surface, a bit like eggshell. The classic scene, and toning of two of the prints gives them a timeless look. My favourite is the darker of the toned versions. David mentions in his letter an issue with borders. This can be the paper moving as the frame is closed. I tend to hold it in place as far as possible to avoid this, but sometimes it just happens. Many thanks, I’m delighted with the prints. Alex. Well I’m glad you got it, Terry but that is a poor show by Royal Mail. I posted it (albeit second class) on Monday 20th. To put it in perspective, I posted several mounted prints to Tokyo the same day - and they arrived two days before you got yours! Has Southend-on-Sea moved?!
Still, I’m glad you like the print and thank you for your kind comments. I can confirm the Sheep Owner has a copy for himself! I can’t make my mind up about Ilford Warmtone fibre paper. Sometimes I love it (like for this shot), other times I struggle to get a decent print with it. It’s probably my fault - I’m not getting very consistent negatives at the minute as I’m trying out different film/developer combinations to my usual HP5 in ID-11. I’ll put it on the Exchange Gallery shortly. Best, Michael |

And like you, my international post seems a lot quicker, as I have just received a print from the USA, in just THREE days and a small packet from China in just TEN days! As for the print, please do post it on the forum, for others to see. Fingers crossed that it is a good representation of the print that I now have. I also have the same view as you sometimes, about my 'regular, go-to' papers. I love them one minute, but then get down hearted and go out and buy to try a different surface. I then find that I usually return to the first paper, given time... And a final question please - do you do anything special, e.g. a mask of some sort, to achieve the perfect black border that you have put on this print? Terry S |
