That's the forum software thinking the colon followed by a capital D is a smiley thing, like so: ": D" without the space inbetween = ... I have added a space between them to stop it doing that.

The camera returned this morning and now feels and sounds absolutely normal. Managed a dry wee slot this afternoon to expose a roll of bulk FP4+.
Alan, I know that I have pmd you; but you deserve a public mention on this business. Thank you very much. |

Thanks Michael. It's good to hear that HiTech did a good job for you. It was actually Tony Miller who recommended them to me, and as I said earlier I was pleased with the repair they did for me, and the fact that they were very helpful.

The main thing I wondered was, why doesn't it have the usual eye viewer and rangefinder windows? Is it designed to just use wide to ultra wide lenses, making the above things unnecessary? And what was it about it that made you buy it? Many thanks, Terry S |

I remember seeing one used in a telephone exchange in the 1970s.
The subscribers call meters were about an inch square on the face with a row of about 5 or 6 digits counting up the units used. These were installed in several vertical racks about 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Literally hundreds stacked up shoulder to shoulder alongside each other . It would have taken forever to read them and write down the numbers. The camera was fitted to a large pyramid shaped cone, camera at the apex, like an over sized lens hood. The cone then placed against the wall of meters and a photo taken. One person worked the camera and the other noted in a book the block photographed. All pre computer. A simple and permanent record for the telephone accounts team. I didn't realise they used Leicas. I would have taken a bit more interest if I had known. I have a similar camera made by Olympus. It was made to fit a microscope. The viewing and focussing is done through the binocular eyepieces of the microscope. When a photo is required the light is diverted through a prism to the camera. Again no eyepiece. Cheers.
