Default LED replacement for cathode.

Hi
I am considering putting together a LED replacement for my broken cold cathode tube, what do I need to construct a LED panel about 4.5 X 6 inches, I have looked at LED tape and rope but don't know if it will bend enough to form a reasonably tight grid pattern, any advice or links much appreciated.

LED rope or tape would probably be very unsuccessful, how about adapting something ready made like this:

Things to consider would be: do these panels give out a constant light or do they get brighter or dimmer with current fluctuations, how hot do they get and how even is the spread of light on the baseboard at various heights. If you find a successful solution I would be interested in your findings.

I use a Heiland LED Cold Light on my 5x4, it's truly a superb piece of kit.
Although it's quite expensive, to me it's money well spent.
I love it.

When APUG's update is finished and it's back online, do a search for my LED conversion.

I used the RGB LED PCB from an LED stage light.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your advice/suggestions, Steve, I can't find your article on APUG?

While APUG is now running it may be that finding articles is still one of the bugs to be fixed in the next few days but maybe Steve can find it for you.

I was barely adept enough to use everything on the old APUG. This new one should only take me 10 years to figure out

Hi Vanannan

a cold cathode tube is also known as a neon
there are plenty of neon sign makers who could knock you one up

best
