Default interesting web site

hello all, just found this web site that I thought some may find interesting and wondered if the concept could be adapted for photos presented on Fadu. www.geograph.org

Have you read the rights page? Free to use for commercial use! I wouldn't list the snaps off my iphone.

I don't care if they have running costs, exploiting peoples image rights is no way to fund a project.

No, I had not read the rights page, perhaps now that people tend to fire off hundreds of snaps off on digital cameras they do not place any value on their photographs. Sometimes I like to see a preview of a place that I am travelling to but seeing too many images of the area can diminish the adventure.

I wouldn't for a second consider feeding any work into the site but I have been using it for the past 2 or 3 years for research. I do find it quite handy, actually, but I take it with a pinch of salt as I usually see entirely different stuff once on location from what people post there

The Commercial Creative Commons rights are assigned to everyone, not just the website owners. You can download any of the images on the site and use them for commercial purposes too. That's how Creative Commons rights work.

Now, one may well have a problem with that too, which is entirely reasonable, especially if one is a commercial photographer, but it's not the same as only the site having the usage rights - they are put into the public domain for everyone to use.

Obviously the site has the advantage of potentially storing higher resolution versions of the images but we are talking about snapshots here - not quality photography.
