Default Photographic gifting via Secret Santa

I've just come across this idea and site, run by emulsive.org, although I can't find a sign up page for 2020 yet. Just searching, I've also discovered that lots of other sites about other various past-times do this idea as well, but this one is photography based.

https://emulsive.org/articles/secret-santa

As far as I can make out, you agree to send a minimum of £20's worth of ANY photographic goods to a person, who's address you will be given. You and this person do not interact, and you will get something from someone else.

Oh, and for no reason asked, you can decide if you want to stick to your own location, so, e.g. for me, it would be the UK, or to send something abroad, which will obviously cost more in postage.

It sounds like it could be fun, so I'll be on the look out for a signing up page later in the year.

OK, if worried about getting something "digi", why not set one up on here, analogue Santa only

I would sign up here, after all we are the friendly forum.

Need plenty of time as we seem to be spread all over the world.

Only problem would be data protection for whoever held all the contact details

Ian

Emulsive is a film site but not necessarily darkroom.

They used an online Secret Santa site called Elfster to handle things.

If you listen to any film photography podcasts, they tend to announce it.

I've had a look at last year's rules. As each participant provides a wish list and as the rules specify film photography related items, I don't really see a danger there.

I took part in this two or three times. The gifts I received were always appropriate. You have the opportunity to post a wish list, although the sender doesn't have to stick to it.

it is kind of fun putting a package together, however I gave it a miss last year, as I found the lack of interaction rather disappointing.
