Default Hi from north herts, uk

Hello guys, a new newb here lol..

I have been taking photos, (on digital), for four years now and my main passion is portraiture I like the odd bit of "traditional" landscape but I'm more interested in the grittier side of things so I tend so see images in in the least likely places.

I spotted a canon eos5 film camera in a charity shop as i shoot canon digitally and I already had a few lenses it seemed like fate! lol and the rest as they say is history!

And so to my main reason for registering here, I recently purchased a very basic stripped down large format press camera off the bay and I'm currently trying to get together all the things I will need to use it. Also other than in the studio I am a complete novice when it comes to manual exposure and focussing on a ground glass so expect some very basic questions!!! Lol

Anyway thanks in advance for everyone's help and understanding

Matt, (real name).... ; )

hi Matt and welcome to fadu
good luck with you new old cameras, film photography is a great hobby.
its a great felling that you get when you start with a roll of film and you end up with a print

Welcome Matt. There are quite a few LFers here so you are in good company. Mind you, you've picked up a good 35mm SLR which tends to be easier to use and have the films processed.

I hope we can help when required

Mike

Cheers for the warm welcome guys. I am yet to develop my own film as I do not yet have the tools to do so. I will more than likely scan my negs as I already have a v700 scanner. And yes the eos5 is a great camera but it is IMHO no different to my 5D in that it does all the complicated stuff for me. The reason I wanted the LF is to slow me right down and make me really think about the shot I'm taking, my only worry is I won't actually take a shot in the first place as when im out focussing on a certain subject I tend to think too much...lol I will probably shoot digital along side my LF so I can machine gun away at anything that catches my eye then retake anything that looks particularly good on screen using the LF that way I don't over analys everything and don't lose momentum.

Thanks again guys I'm already liking this place it has very much the same vibe as the TP Film forum which got me curious about this film lark in the first place!

Matt

Hi Matt and welcome to Fadu, film photography can become very addictive, and you might soon find yourself wanting to go to the Dark side

Welcome to FADU, hope you enjoy. As Richard has said beware the pull of the "dark side"
