Default Winding an unloaded Yashica Mat

Is it safe to wind the crank and cock the shutter on my Yashica mat when it has no film in it? I have a mint one arriving today and I don't want to break it. I have read that it isn't advisable to wind it with an empty spool in the top, something to do with tension. Any advice would be great fully received. My last yashica mat eBay purchase was a disaster, so I am a bit nervous lol
