Default Yashica mat shutter speeds

OK, I just put a roll through my new yashica mat and they are all over exposed. I spoke to the previous owner and he said the camera hasn't been used for years. What are the chances of my sorting it through use? And failing that, can anyone recommend a UK service centre.

Just the usual "suspect" in the sense that Newton and Ellis in Liverpool has a good reputation but is quite pricey.

There may well be Yashica specialists in the U.K. but l have no idea

What we could do with is a reference article in which each user of a service and repair shop enters details of what was serviced, how well it was done and an idea of charges

I have sent a message to newton and Ellis I will be interested to see the quote the mat is mint so it is worth spending money on, although I would rather not. it has been sat in a display case for ages so I am trying to wake the shutter up by activating it, a lot

If you find Newton and Ellis too expensive can I suggest the Camera Workshop in Bletchley. I have had 3 items serviced by them and they were both quick and reasonably priced. I think their turn around was about 7 working days. For a strip down and rebuilding a Rodenstock 50mm APO lens that I had accidentally dropped in a bucket of water (Don't ask!!)!! was £40

What convinced me they were good was they repaired an old and abused Minolta XM. There are no spares for these cameras but he secured a film speed dial that had a mind of it's own.

For other Minolta users, I believe when Minolta passed into history he was in the position to buy up all the remaining spares in the UK from them so he may be able to get that broken Minolta gathering dust in a cupboard in working order again.

The contact details are

Wharfside Industrial Estate, 9 Wharfside, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK2 2AZ

You can try dry firing the shutter at all the shutter speedsw, you may ned a hundred or firing but often the shutter, if it hasn't been used for a while, maybe years, the lubricants will thicken, and dry firing will work, it has for a number of my older cameras, but the best way is a shutter service, or CLA, expensive, but should last manyyears as lon g as the shutter is used. Newton and Es, although expensive, are one of the best, t5hey have repaired and serviced many cameras for me over the years with no complaints

Brilliant. Thanks. The camera is in fabulous condition so I am undecided as to whether a follow cla is necessary. I guess it would benefit from it but that would push the overall cost past £200. Whilst that isn't excessive for a Mat that is genuinely like new, its money I don't have. Tricky decision. I will email the camera workshop straight away. Thanks for that tip

I can recommend Black on White in Bristol, John Quantick serviced my Yashicamat 124 and Rolleiflex 3.5 E2 some years ago, both are still working perfectly. Ke's also serviced some of my LF lenses.

More recently (just before Covid( he serviced and repaired my Rolleiflex Automat.

Default Service of a TLR

Look at it this way. Get a quote from the guys in Bletchley as well and then make your decision. The cost of a mint TLR that is in perfect order and looking that way too, will outprice £200 and they are going to increase for a real good 'un.

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost, just so I can brace myself I like the fact that he is good with TLRs

That's exactly what I thought. This Mat is mint. I had a nice MX serviced and that is a joy to use. The cost was fully justified. Also, it then becomes a known quantity. I have emailed him, let's see what he comes back wit
