Question Firstcall Superfine.

http://www.firstcall-photographic.co...-1-litre/p4724

It appears to have the same dilutions and times as Rollei RHS, but costs a lot less.
At £4.99 a litre I am going to buy a bottle. Has anyone here tried this developer?

Looks interesting Keith. I need some film developer but not much else so would not be happy with First Call's £7.99 delivery charge for a £4.99 bottle of developer!

Would be interested to hear how it performs as I may try it next time I need to order other stuff! It sounds ideal for Acros 100.

Regards,
Paul

it has very short development times which indicates a highly active developer which usually suggest grain won't be too fine which is contrary to what they say. I guess you won't know until you try it.

Is EXP 2015-01 as shown on the link an expiry date of Jan 2015? If so this is hopefully just the photo of a particular item for illustration purposes

It is amazing value given that you have between 7 and 16 litres of developer for £4.99.

Xtol isn't bad value but it's still nearly £8 for say 10 litres at a 1+1 dilution

I've tried the Firstcall print developer and found it to be very good with MG Classic and Adox Mcc110, also with Kentmere VC Select, I jave just ordered some paper from them and have ordered a bottle to try, £4.15 is not much to lose if it doesn't work, (I don't pay VAT) also some more of their print dev, I have used the own brand chemicals before and found them to be very good, they tell me they are made by the same factory that makes the Rollei range of chemicals and are pretty much identical

Maybe someone on FADU that has used the Firstcall film developer will tell us what he thought and if there is no-one then hopefully Richard will tell us of his experience once he has tried it.

It should be here next Tuesday, if and when the weather improves I will try out a roll or two of some Retro 400 s that I have ordered to try and will certainly post here what I think of the developer, if it is as good as Firstcall claim then at that price it is worth getting some when ordering from them, They tell me that it is the same as the Rollei developer, made in the same factory, and certainly I have found that other Firstcall chemistry, their stop bath, fixer and print developer has been firstclass, and I use the print dev nowadays as my main print developer, at that price and quality you can't go far wrong

I'm no developer expert but I have used this product and have no complaints.

Here are examples of the results on flickr:
