Default Enlarger Lenses

Hi, can anyone tell me which lens is best for 35mm and for 6x6, i have El Nikkor 50mm f2.8 & Componar C 50mm f2.8 as well as E.Rokkor 75mm f4.5 & Componar C 75mm F4. Obviously theres 1/2 stop difference on the 75mm lenses but other than that how much difference is there? My eyes aint what they used to be!!!

Carl, Componar C is a 3-lens design. Nikkor and Rokkor should be much better.

The performance of enlarging lens varies a lot, you may sometimes find a cheaper lens bettering a dearer one. The only way to be sure is to make enlargements from the same part of a negative and compare the prints. The best results are usually obtained when the lens is closed down by 2 or 3 stops, but this varies as well.

Thanks Miha, is there any lenses that stand out above others?

I would use the Nikkor and the Rokkkor ,The ERokker is a very good lens indeed, I used to have one, untill I dropped it and it came in contact with the concrete floor of my darkroom, but it certainly was a match for any more modern lens and given the choice I would use it in preference to any other I have tried, The E nikkor speaks for itself,Richard

Every 6-lens design is very good.

I'm using El-Nikkors (2,8/50 & 5,6/80). My first enlarging lens was a cheap Rodenstock, similar to your Schneider.

I can personally recommend the El-Nikkor 50mm f/2.8 as I use it myself. An excellent lens.
