Enlarger Wing Mirror
Anyone that has a Durst M605 will know what a pain in the neck it is to see the aperture ring on the 50mm lens, as the Siriotub adaptor is recessed up into the enlarger.
Fine when the enlarger head is up high but literally a pain in the neck when the head is down and you have to get your head down to the baseboard level to look up into the gap between lens and adaptor. I fished around in my junk box and found a small mirror taken from a cheap set of faulty binoculars. The plastic focussing thread had stripped. A handy sized bolt had the hexagonal head cut off, and fitted in place of the red swing filter, which I never use. A little bit of hacksawing and filing, and I can now see the aperture ring with ease at any heaight. I used what was available with no fancy machining. Look at the pictures for a better Idea of what I am talking about. http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1592822271 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1592822271 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1592822271 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1592822271 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1592822271 Cheers Nat. p.s. the numbers appear reversed, but i can live with that.

In this situation I count the clicks.

An innovative idea there Nat!
But what a crazy bit of engineering, putting the lens into the recess, making it really difficult to see the f-stops. But I love that most days that I read the recent posts, I learn something and if I've learnt one thing from your post, is that some binoculars have a mirror inside! Who would have though? Terry S |

In the 45 years I've used a Durst M601 and later an M605 it's never bothered me. I just count the click stops, but it also helps the Comoonon S lenses have a full aperture lever for focussing, plus easier positioned illuminated scales. I do have two Neonons as well.

I also count the stops by their clicks. However, I can see why some like to have a visual on this. I guess I just find this suits the way I work.

I too have this enlarger and lacking your ingenuity I learnt to count the clicks too! Nice job though!

Haha this is awesome, I miight give this a go myself. Like many mentioned I too count the clicks usually unless im printing stepless but sometimes I miss something. Im also the type of person to get stressed out easily and I always dip under to double check anyway

Nat, I still dip under as well but now you come to mention it, it is getting to be a bit of a pain - literally
