Default Hi from North Wales

Hi guys,

I stumbled upon this forum today following some flued-up internet surfing re the Olympus Trip 35 I just bought and had delivered today.

I have used film for years and recently been given a digital camera. This will save me a lot of money and, frankly, will see a lot of use given as film and development has become prohibitively expensive and the quality of developing has gone markedly downhill. I have also began to use tools such as Lightroom and Flickr and defend them for their creative potential.

On Saturday, though, I'm going to the Cairngorms in Scotland for the first time, and what I realised while packing my backpack, trying to limit the weight of a pack I'll be wild camping with, was that my new Digital SLR is of course too heavy, and my tiny and very accomplished Sony point and shoot is entirely uninspiring. Hence my impulsive/compulsive purchase of the Olympus Trip 35 and some slide film a couple of days back. That package certainly was exciting and inspiring, and I'm looking forward to bringing it with me!

What I would like, though, is in the next year or so, to carry on with digital photography, but to try to get out and use a darkroom for my own shots if possible. I don't know if there are any facilities available for rent, or I don't know what, in the area. I remember the few occasions that I used dark rooms while at college (photography was only one part of a course which primarily encompasses sound engineering), and I loved it. If anybody can advise on this, that would be great.

Meanwhile, though, apologies for the prolix intro, and I hope to be learning a lot from this forum. Cheers.

Rob

Hello Rob and welcome. I am sure we can help in terms of analogue matters.

Welcome Rob, the Olympus Trip was a wise choice. We have several members in North Wales who may be able to advise on darkroom availability there.

Excellent. Cheers guys. Yeah, I've got a couple of film SLRs, a fully manual Olympus and a Chinon with auto exposure. I love using both, and find it bizarely more intuitive in terms of depth of field etc., than a fully auto digital SLR - I have a Konica Minolta D5 which is great to be fair.

Cool, yeah look forward to finding out what's around here.

Thanks again,

Rob
