I have used the original sulphide sepia toner and the Tetenal thiocarbamide toners. In my experience, the latter gave a more yellow colour to the tone, although the colour supposedly can be adjusted by altering the toner mixture. I haven't found the smell of the traditional toner a problem but was cautious about using it anywhere where there might be film/paper to be fogged.

I have used Sulphur Toners outside in the garden on a warm afternoon but yet my wife could smell it as soon as she walked into the house.
The smell seemed to get worse the more dilute the toner (No, I don't understand it either) I have never tried it since - I didn't find the effects justified the smell YMMV Martin |
