Am I alone in bristling when I see all these daft abbreviations such as “Blad”, “Hassy”, “Cord”, “Oly”, etc? Are some people really so busy that they have to save two seconds when they type?

No, you're not alone Alan, it winds me up too
It was a trend many years ago by the would-be's hoping to sound like they knew what they were talking about.....and failing miserably! Re: the SWC, i had one for a while and loved it too......it's the one camera i regret ever selling. Mike |

Self-proclaimed superiority? After your last comment I’d say it’s self-evident. Haha. Have fun twiddling with your ‘Bladdy.

The most famous German user of the Hasselblad, Stefan Heymann, induced dozens of other photographers by his website to buy one of the Swedish gems. His e-mail address starts with "bladrunner". :-)

As I said in my original post (#8), I've just never felt the urge to get one!
I've only even seen pictures of the range and have never seen or held one in real life. So, can someone put it simply for me, what the great attraction of the Hassleblad is and for that matter Leica's? Given the choice out of the two, I do like the design of some of the Leica's that I've seen online and in print, but again have never felt the urge to 'I MUST HAVE ONE!' Thoughts? Terry S |

They feel wonderful in the hand, all the controls lie in the right place, they feel solid, the system is comprehensive and the lenses are superb. That's not to say they don't have their foibles....the helical focussing is a bit naff, i prefer the rack and pinion focussing on the RZ. Hasselblads seem (or is it just wishful thinking?) to be ageless. You can more or less fit any lens to any body (talking 500 series) produced in the last 50 years and if you want to, you can even stick a d****l back on one. So there's the investment aspect too.......i'm still using lenses and accessories that i bought 20 years ago. I guess many wedding and fashion photographers relied on them for a crust which has to say something for the marque? Will it make better photographs? No, but it will remove the distraction of faffing around with a complicated camera and allow you to concentrate on making images. Mike |

Hi Terry,
I can see why the Hasselblad is so attractive to people. The first time I held one I was shocked at how small and light it was. For a 6x6 camera I was expecting it to be much larger and heavier. Also, I was impressed by the fit and finish and the precision feel of the thing. Combine that with top-rank lenses and a huge range of accessories, and it's no wonder it has the reputation it does. Given the compact size and weight, and good ergonomics, I could see myself happily using one for pretty much all my MF needs. That said, I don't lust after one as the cost of entry into that system just isn't worth it for me. This is a hobby, not a vocation for me. I'm perfectly OK with other cameras, which have their advantages too, and cost far less. As long as the lenses give me what I'm after, then I'm content.

Well said! I wholeheartedly agree. Nothing is more annoying than fiddling around with a poorly designed camera.
