Default Rodenstock Rodagon 135mm f5.6 enlarger lens problem

The aperture ring on my Rodenstock Rodagon 135mm f5.6 enlarger lens has begun operating erratically in that the ring doesn't operate smoothly and the aperture diameter bears no resemblance to the indicated f stop. It seems that there is a diconnection between the two.
Does anyong know who might be able to repair the lens nhere in the UK.

Thanks in advance.
Keith

Hi Keith, I recently had an APO Componon rebuilt by Newton Ellis in Liverpool. Quick turnaround and less than £100. However it may be on the cusp of being cheaper to find another lens.

I should guess that most things of a certain age would need servicing ,I had a large format shutter repaired and serviced 130 of your earth pounds ,or as someone used to say here 130 bear tokens ,now I could have bought another one but bet your bottom dollar it would at lest need servicing ,so I had my one repaired and serviced ,as I wont be buying another one I will at lest have the benefit of a nice working LF shutter .

My APO 50/2.8 Rodagon had the same problem which was due to the little spring loaded ball bearing for the click stops was rusty. I sent it to a repairer in Milton Keynes and it was returned within a week for £40 including postage. The contact address is 9 Wharfside, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK2 2AZ
Phone: 01908 378088

I'm pleased to report that I had my lens repaired at the Camera Repair Workshop, 9 Wharfside, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK2 2AZ Phone: 01908 378088 and I received it back today exactly one week after sending it.

I was phoned by a really nice guy called Dave who told me that he replaced a small part that had broken and serviced the lens. Total cost including tracked return postage was £48 which I thought was excellent.

I only had one other quote for repair and that was from a company called 1st Aid Repairs and they quoted me £168 inc - I gracious declined.

Goes to show that it's always worth getting at least a couple of quotes, for any job really. Although of course, sometimes the cheapest quote in the end can turn out to be the most expensive, by having to have the job done twice.

I much prefer to look for recommendations from others and also just listen to how someone talks to you, either in person or on the phone.

I knew he would not let you down. Yes Dave is a very amenable person to deal with and has a 'can do' attitude.

Just a quick note. If anyone on FADU has Minolta film cameras/lenses he specialise in these. When Minolta folded, apparently he bought all the spares from them, so if he has not got them then they are not available.

I bought a well used Minolta XM a few years ago which was needing a lot of TLC. He did a full service, including replacing the seals, cleaning and adjusting the shutter. It is working superbly and hopefully it will do so for a long while yet. I think he charged about £80 for all the work. (I have never known a SLR with such a quiet shutter. It cannot be much louder than a Leica rangefinder!)

Glad to know you got sorted quickly and at a reasonable price.

A useful repair person to know about.
