Default Hello from Iowa,USA

Hi,Im Shannon and im new to this forum.Ive been interested in photography since I was 13 when my dad gave me a camera(im 47 now) and said shoot with this while sitting in a tree stand deer hunting in the woods.Needless to say i got a lot photos of trees and birds. We couldn't afford to get all that film processed so i built a darkroom in my brothers room and taught myself. When it came time to go to collage i attended a professional photography program for 4 years(along with fine art). Since then ive been a commercial photographer (20 years now). My wife and i own a studio in Iowa USA doing a variety of assignments.Ive always had large format film cameras for my art work.I love my darkroom.Since my assignments have been slow in the last 6 years we started showing our darkroom work in art galleries and at art festivals.I also lecture and teach(a little)I now spend more time in the Darkroom then i do on the computer.Film and D.R. photography has enriched my life greatly.Im looking forward to continue my learning and becoming a active member. Especially on the Formulae threads. Thanks for having me.

welcome to FADU Shannon, I hope you like it here ,there's something nice about taking the photo and seeing it all the way through to a print without the help of a computer ,and knowing you made that print, its a great feeling

Welcome to FADU Shannon from another relative newbie. I had occasion to visit Iowa City once, sometime in the early 1990s, in the middle of summer. I thought it was a pretty good place to find myself in, but the heat was near to unbearable (especially so for an Irishman).

It made me wonder if you have trouble cooling your chemicals in the summertime? Here on the North Coast of Ireland I have the opposite problem - getting tray chemicals to stay at 20 degrees once heated. I have a temperature-controlled Nova slot processor which is great but it's nice to see the image appear 'properly' in trays and for Lith printing you need the trays of course.

Hi Micheal nice to meet you.,,No I dont have a problem with my chemistry being to warm, its usually too cold.I live further north of Iowa City which makes it cooler here in the summer. We have AC in the studio but dont have to use it much as the building is made from brick and stays cool.
