Default Stock Taking

I have been doing a bit of clearing up of my photographic equipment and decided to do a quick stock-take on how much film and how much paper I have in all its sizes.

I surprised myself.

I have not done one for what now I realise is a few (5+) years

Considering that I am an HP5 user, I was amazed just how much "other" film I have.

As for Paper, I see to have a lot more paper than I realise - both in paper sizes as well as finishes and in some cases grades.

Am I alone, being something of a closet collector of film and paper ?

How often does everyone do film and paper stock-takes ?

Martin

I did a stock take of paper last year, I don't know how I have accumalted so much, both RC and FB paper, I think maybe I should use some of it up before I get any more, I even found a few sheets of Mg3, amazing how it builds up, I guess that I am one of those people who think my supplies mus be getting depleted, and just order more without the stock take, must have been over 20 years since I did any, certainly last time I remember was when I moved to my current address, which was around 1991

I was going to start a thread on currently available printing papers to see what people were using and how they liked them. Went to my stash and realised I must use up what I have first as it's getting on a bit. Film I don't have large stocks as I haven't been making images for the last few years.

I recently realised I had too much film in too many formats stashed away to try out, or 'just in case' I needed it. I had a clear-out and sent it where it might actually get used.
I never build up a big stash of paper- unlike film I can't freeze or cold store it, so I try to buy in manageable quantities that I can easily turn over and keep fresh.
When/if I get a new darkroom I'll be stocking up almost from scratch.

ps- Silverphoton, just followed a link to your album.
'Devils bridge' and the IR shot of the trees are both gorgeous.

Wish I had done a stock take earlier.

Just made up a new bottle of developer, gone to make up new batch of fixer and the cupboard is bare.

I've had to stock take films in a spreadsheet and work out which to use first

I have some HP5 (5x4) it's quite out of dated and I bought it very short dated from a member of APUG, the Ilford US dealer had added a short dated sticker presumably to sell it cheap that's foggy so that gets used for testing lenses, last time was for someone else with an MPP Xenar lens focus issue.

Reality is I have a lot of out dated film, I need to use the ones that age fastest first.
