I keep all my film and paper in its very own deep freeze.

I am not sure it significantly extends the useful life of the materials but it keeps it all clean and in one location.

I get stuff out about 24hrs before I need to use it and leave it to thaw somewhere in the kitchen

Just a point, when we visited Ilford's factory they stored all their emulsions in a cold room. I don't think it was below freezing but it was top coat temperature. I guess they must know that emulsions need cool temperatures for storage.

I keep mine in a spare bedroom with no heating. I used to keep it in the darkroom but found that on very warm days the temperature gets up to about 28 deg C. It ruined my stocks of Polygrade.

Tony, I noticed that too

It was the thing that made me decide cool/cold was the best way to store my emulsions

Mine is kept in the bedroom where I can keep an eye on it. The room is unheated. The darkroom is much colder - especially at the moment but its also very damp up here and everything rust/degrades - even in the house!

I tend to keep mine in the darkroom most of the year but when it's very warm I move it downstairs for a few months. I recall reading somewhere (Simon Galley from Ilford I think) that the biggest problem with film in particular was temperature variation. If the materials were kept somewhere with low fluctuations then within reason this was more important than temperature. This probably at least partly explains why a fridge is often recommended.

Do you buy particularly naughty or badly behaved paper
