None of my business really Steve but having lost Dave who was selling a lot of stuff a few weeks ago, I hope we are not losing you to either analogue photography or from FADU
Best of luck with sale. Some good items and prices Mike |

Mike if you are right, I think we should ban members selling off their darkroom gear in case it disheartens the membership

Sadly you are all right, I am exiting the film and darkroom arena for a number of reasons. Primarily it is a lack of time due to work and family commitments that mean I just cannot get into the darkroom to process and print very often, I have 8 months worth of films still waiting to be processed and my printing skills are suffering.
A close second however is my ongoing issue with chemical odours that has been getting worse over the past couple of years to the point where even the permanent use of a Nova slot processor and odourless chemicals can leave me with discomfort for days. I have installed 3 extractors fans (on directly over the Nova) and also use a high spec gas mask but I can still get wheezy so enough is enough. One whiff of something like rapid fix is asking for trouble and I also avoid the use of many household cleaners for the same reason. So the equipment is all up for sale and I will be going digital but hope to maintain a look and feel like that of film and silver printing which I believe can almost be done. I will miss the analogue world and all the people who have supported me over the years. Thanks Steve |

Steve I'm so sorry that you have to give up your darkroom work. I came across another person who had to give up analogue work for much the same reason. I always admired your work and I have a lovely lith print of yours of Boston Harbour which I've saved in my photo album.
Good luck with your venture into digital and I'm sure you can carry many of your skills from the analogue world into it.

Thanks for the kind words Vincent, I'm absolutely committed to making my future work look as real as I can and avoid the temptation to overprocess it. I'm sure I'll end up adding grain and keeping shapening to a minimum to avoid that super smooth look which ruins mosts digital B&W work.

Bad luck, Steve. Sadly if you are susceptible to darkroom chems then it seems there's little that can be done. There are high tech respirators as I understand it but I certainly wouldn't want to be in a darkroom looking like something out of a Quatermass episode.
If you are not old enough to remember the series it was a 1950s science fiction series on the BBC. It used to frighten me as a boy Best of luck with digital Mike |

Steve, you taught me something about lith printing and I'm getting into it now. Thank you for what you did and I wish you happiness and peace in whatever you are getting into.
Just one word of caution : I'm older than you and thus have more experience. I have in my life taken drastic decisions, throwing away things that seemed superfluous then. And many years later found myself searching to buy the same stuff back. But anyway, good luck! Peter |
