Hello from Bristol, UK
Hi all,
I just joined FADU, hoping for some advice while I learn about printing. I've been taking photos for only 3 years - digital at first. Then I was given a 35mm SLR by a relative and starting shooting B&W. From day one I processed the films at home, and scanned them onto the computer. I've had good success and lots of fun. I collect cameras, and insist only on buying ones that work. I don't want a museum to look at, I want a collection I can enjoy. I now shoot 35mm and 120 format. Just this week I bought an enlarger and converted my loft to a darkroom big enough to use it effectively (I used to do films in the bathroom). I tried to print several photos and it seems somewhat harder than processing films - the results are variable and I haven't managed to make a perfect print yet. So please bear with me as I ask questions about printing in the forum, and gradually gain experience. |

Welcome Judas. You are quite right, printing is harder than developing films possible since more judgement is required in printing. Enjoy the learning curve, it's steep to start with.

Hi and welcome to FADU. Glad to see you have got a darkroom and have had the chance to try printing. You're right it is harder than developing but a lot more fun. It is after all the end product. I enjoy seeing a strip of well processed negs come out of the tank but nothing like as much as looking at the prints. The neg is part of the journey but the print is the arrival

Thanks all for the welcome.
I forgot to mention that the usual blurb I trot out when talking about this is that I think digital cameras are like Ford Mondeos. They're reliable, practical, convenient, predictable, and utterly boring. Film is fun. |

Not made a perfect print yet Judas? Me neither, 25 years and still searching, that's the magic.
Best Wishes. |
