Ilford HP5+ disposable camera DIY develop?
Earlier I purchased a disposable camera from Boots that was made by Ilford and had HP5+ inside it. Because I tend to develop my own film, would it be possible to do it myself or should I get it done by a "professional"? And if I can do it, any ideas how I could bust out the film?

I haven't done this myself, but I would suggest having a look to see how it goes together, then go into the dark and open it. You may need scissors to detach the film. You don't rewind these things, so it must be wrapped around some sort of spool. Perhaps it's wound back into a cassette to make it removable in daylight, but unless someone knows for sure, I would initially proceed in the dark.

If you google "unload disposable camera", the first few results are from Youtube and look useful.

Sorry, I just remembered. I have seen this question before; and it's necessary to be careful about removing the battery, so as to avoid shorts, shocks or sparks.

From the look of those videos, the film is in a canister anyway? I thought it was all wound in some kind of light proof chamber! Is the film in a canister for all cameras then?

Certainly the Ilford camera with HP5+ in it will be in a canister so you will be safe to lever off the end where the canister is. I imagine that the film will be completely wound inside the canister as appeared to be the case in the videos so a film retriever will be required or simply lever off the end of the canister.
I prefer to load film onto the developing reel by retrieving the leader from the film rather than breaking open the end of the canister Maybe disposable camera afficionados here will recall if other disposable camera types use or once used a different system Mike |

Thanks Mike, I tend to lever off the end of the canister anyway!

pop the battery out of the bottom,
then break the body apart the film will come out and you can dev as normal. flat headed screwdriver for prising bits and stabbing it is all thats needed.... just be careful of sharp bits with hands! |
