I have some HP5 and FP4 en route, nothing exciting but both are favourites.

Jane,

I have two Bronica SQ-B cameras owned from new and have found they work well in general use. However, as these are a modular system I have run into trouble when changing lens / film magazines etc. as the system of interlocks is fairly complex and I have on a couple of occasions not been able to work the camera fully until I've 'taken everything apart and put it back together again', although if you just have the one lens and magazine this is obviously less of an issue.

I agree, It happened to me recently I failed to make sure that the lens had clicked home properly. It take a bit of time to track it back.

Last time I had a problem with my SQA not working was when I left the darkslide in after changing backs. After a few minutes of faffing about with the controls and replacing the lens etc the embarrassing reason suddenly struck like a wet fish in the face when I started to replace the original back to see if the issue was with the replacement... So yes, everything needs to be properly connected (or in this case, disconnected!). It may be that the problem with the camera not firing until you re-seat the lens may be due to the pins not mating properly as these cameras and lenses are getting a bit old now and may be in need of a clean and lube.

P.S. The camera may not want to wind and fire if there is no film in the camera (as Tom advises above, there are a number of interlocks on the camera to make life safer - and annoying when they stop you from doing things you want to do). Pull the darkslide out and it should fire and wind on for testing. If that fails, take the back right off and try again. Likewise, you can't change the lens if the camera is not wound-on (do not try to force it - it will NOT go back on again!). There is a manual for the SQA on the forum here: http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...ead.php?t=6219

Default Additional Lenses

If you are interested in extra lenses, have a look at Second Hand Darkroom where they have a good selection of used Bronica SQ lenses starting from 40mm upwards. The prices are not that horrendous either - when compare to a SQ Body starting around £650! Prices are increasing relatively quickly now.
