Default Are American Ebay postage costs out of touch with the rest of us ???

I sell on ebay only as a person, my sons old games, things we don't need etc, just like many, however..............

When I do sell (rarely" abroad I have sent to France, America, Spain etc, usually about £12.

Why is it that the Americans charge so much, is it me ????

It is far from unusual to see $75, $45 shipping on what I would sent at £10 ???

Stops Me buying from the US

Cannik, I have no idea but I think you have hit on the solution - don't buy from the U.S.

I see no way to change things via a FADU thread. I too have noticed some high delivery charges from U.S. sellers on the U.K. e-bay but that would appear to be the way things are

I think it's down to eBay's policy of adding the customs/handling charges to the sale price.

I don't think you can avoid these charges, unless the seller deliberately decides to refuse this option which is set on by default.

It is a shame because there is a good reason to buy from abroad, there are items I would like that are not seen in the UK or have never seen on a UK site.

I don't know if this is because different countries had different items distributed to them by the suppliers but it is worth buying abroad.

A lot of it is down to the sheer cost of postal charges and carriage charges plu tax which the sellers in the USA have to pay, post is a lot more, and unless you are a big firm over there and sending out all the time so can get cheaper costs the freight companies charge the earth to send smaller parcels overseas, to make up for the very much cheaper internal charges, for instance it costs twice as much to send goosa to Canada as to just inside the Canadian/US border, so we as the customers have to pay extra,

I used to buy items on eBay from the US, and the prices were ok. I once had to pay the import duty here on a used Nikon lens from Florida. I think it was £12, but that was the only time. More recently, however, I have noticed both the ridiculous postage charges, and also that many US sellers exclude the UK. I don’t know why that is. I can understand people not wanting to send goods to countries that are seen as ‘unstable’ , but the UK wouldn’t normally be seen that way.....
Anyway, I’m sure they are limiting their market quite significantly, but it is annoying. It’s easier to buy chemicals from Russia than cameras from the US.

I have recently seen Americans moaning about the postal costs from Europe to the USA. Some times as much as the item itself.

I recently purchased about 12 CDs direct from New Orleans and the postage and tax was half the price of the goods.
Only place I could get them, so I was over a barrel.
It's not always the individuals I think, it's their own government enforcing hiked up postal charges to bring in more taxes etc..

Look at the prices on ebay for goods coming from China to the UK.
The goods I have purchased have been serviceable and the postage has been not only dirt cheap but quick arriving. Usually a week to a fortnight.
I think there is a special arrangement between our country UK and China to increase trade in both directions.

But you do see the occasional rogue asking stupid prices, not only abroad but from the UK as well.

OP you need to learn

Ebay itself generates many of the shipping costs from the US to the UK, and vice versa and to and from other countries.

Check with the sellers, you'll find they are lower usually. However some companies charge & pay the Import Tax and VAT which is on the item and shipping direct to the relevant authorities in the UK this works out abot 33% .
