Smile Hello from Manila

Hi, everyone!

I'm Jopie and I'm from the Philippines.

I came across this site looking for a way to make my own Paper Safe so I can store photographic paper and paper I'm about to treat for cyanotype printing.

I've only been shooting film for a little over 2 years. I mostly use a Rolleicord V and Canon 7. Occasionally, an Olympus XA4 and a Canon AV-1, which used to be my mother's.

In a way I feel like I get to connect with her, since she passed away when I was very young. Her camera is one of the few things she left behind for me. It wasn't kept properly, so the lens is damaged with fungus and haze, but still functional. I can't bear to part with it for sentimental reasons.

Shooting film has been such a delight. It taught me to be more patient and to appreciate moments better. It's also weird, but I think of it as therapy. It's a practice in accepting that you can't fully be in control of everything all the time, and I find comfort in that.

I really love shooting film, and discovering it has changed my life for the better.

Prior to the pandemic happening, I've been meaning to darkroom print more of my photos and consider if I can set up my own darkroom as well because I was supposed to move into my own place. However, since we've been on lockdown for the past few months, I haven't had work and have to put off those dreams for now. Someday though! For sure.

Thank you for this space and having me here.

Welcome aboard Jopie.

Yes, the pandemic has caused many of us to put plans (indeed, most things!) on hold for a few months. This too shall pass.

Have fun! Bob.

Welcome! Sometimes those old fungus and hazy lenses can create really special images. Enjoy!
