It might be worth looking at the prices charged by Hermes and other courier services.
I have had a few parcels delivered via Hermes from private ebay sellers who are obviously not professional dealers. Have a look around. Cheers.

It would look difficult for a one man operation to match any of the big retailers. I am not a business man or entrepreneur but if your selling line was film alone then that means that customers have double postage in that unless they only need film they have to buy other stuff from other retailers. My quick check didn't show anything cheaper?

Don't use Hermes if you want to receive your film before the expiry date!

Would that price include the carriage as well? However if it did that would put you somewhere slightly cheaper than Morco where I normally buy my film. Their FP4/36 exp is currently 5.80 per cassette. with postal charges usually around £4.50 on top. |

Mike O Pray raised an interesting point.
Selling just film to people who may buy other stuff at the same time such as chemicals and paper may not be viable simply because as he says, they much prefer to spread the postage charges across the entire order. |

Unfortunately the problem as I see it Ian, even with film alone, is exacerbated by the fact that the likes of AG Photographic sells bricks of 10 in some films such as HP5+ which reduces the price by even more versus selling single rolls or even 3-4 singles as a bunch.

I have just done the sums on a 10 pack of FP4. If I sold it at the price AG Photo are selling it at which is £61.00 including Postage then I would make a loss. |

Trade Film Prices.
What is the basic price that say a batch of film could be bought from Ilford or one of it's trade distributors. That could show the percentage mark-up imposed by the likes of AG or First-Call.
