Default Places to visit in Shropshire?

My wife and I are considering visiting Shropshire some time this year, but wondering where to stay. Probably a Holiday cottage.

Can anyone suggest somewhere central to stay where we can visit some photographic locations? National Trust, Abbeys, picturesque countryside etc?
I know it's a very open and subjective question, but neither of us have visited Shropshire before.

Thanks in advance.

I'm just over the border from shropshire, depends what kind of thing you want ?. Telford area has old engineering, south Shropshire more churches, hills and "quaint" villages.. North are a couple of old airfields, Hawkestone park. Shrewsbury area would be fairly central.

It's a big county and has widely different landscapes - bogs and lakes (meres and mosses) in the north, gorges in the middle, and hills and forests in the south. There aren't many major roads so travelling around will take longer than anticipated.
Industrial history galore around Ironbridge. The Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth, and the narrow-gauge Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway just over the border.
The Shropshire Hills National Landscape that takes in the Long Mynd, the Stiperstones (where I am), and the uplands down to Clun and beyond.
Historic castles at Ludlow and Stokesay, near Craven Arms.
Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford.
Attingham Hall and Viroconium Roman city at Wroxeter near Shrewsbury.
And there's more…

Bridgnorth, Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Wenlock Edge, these are en-route vto Shrewsbury. I'm about 4 or 5 miles south of Shropshire, you'd almost pass my house.

If you visit Church Stretton it's at the foot of Long Mynd. and it's worth then heading south to Ludlow, and then the Clee Hills are on you way home with spectacular views.

Thanks Ian, we are looking at around June this year and we will do some research when we get time.
Shrewsbury might be a good location, so something for us to consider.
