Default Recommended Chemisty kits for C41

Hi guys

My daughters boyfriend is contemplating trying to develop colour film as part of killing time during lock-down.

Is there a colour chemistry kit any of you would recommend for C41 ?

Thanks

Martin

Iv'e heard good things about the Rollei C41 kit, also I think a lot of people use a Tetenal kit, also the Belini kit has a good reputation, but if John King sees this he might be able to offer more advice than me

I have used many over the time, but have settled on the Tetenal kit. The mixing is easy and the results are predicable. I always use the chemical in a 'use once and throw away' with a Jobo processor With the same method from a 1 litre kit he will get 6 films developed and bleach fixed. with the 2.5 litre kit I get 15 films.

Or he could use the Digibase ready mixed C41 developer available from Firstcall, but then he would have to buy a separate blix as well, whereas the Tetenal is self contained.

I've just used the Rollei Mini Kit.

Only makes 500ml of each chemical, and will do about 10 films.

Easy to mix, and I found it easy to use in my Jobo, maybe worth a look.

Martin hasn't mentioned what equipment his daughter's boyfriend has but unless he has access to a heated water bath then one of the benefits of the Rollei kit is that it does develop down to room temperature which may be useful

Yes I am aware of the dangers that can occur in theory at least if developing at less than 37.8 C but it might be worth considering

Hi Mike

I was going to suggest that he uses a washing up bowl of warm water as his tempering bath.

Of course he could just use a proper bath and be done with it.

Regarding the Tetenal C41 kit - it seems to be out of stock everywhere I have googled.

Is this just a temporary supply issue or a common problem - does anyone know ?

I have just had a quick look on Firstcall and not much at all avai;able from Germany, either colour or black and white, could be due to the lockdown over there, maybe Tetenal have been closed due to the pandemic? I can't remember seeing so little from Tetenal, even when they were closed last year,

The AG website are still advertising them with no indication that they are out of stock. Just rechecked 07.23 today and they are now showing out of stock but will be replenished in 3-5 days
