As Marty says Mike, you shouldn't have to join anything to watch the trailers, as I did.

If you are having problems, you may want to look on YouTube where they are also freely available, without the need of any signing in.

OK, thanks. I was able to see it after being taken round the houses about joining but it told me less about his printing than did the YouTube video.

Maybe I was just expecting too much from a trailer

You've been looking at the wrong kind of trailer.

Now that's the right kind of trailer if a "hijack" were on my mind. Given the price of Kodak films, especially C41, these days and inside that lorry is the equivalent of JB's yacht. Not the U.S. president but the other one called Jeff

Photography Online, as MC2 Photography, have now released a 30 minute programme on Robin Bell, which probably avoids all mention of digital.

Thanks Marty That interview was a big improvement on the few minutes in the original Photography Online video which failed to do Robin any justice in my opinion

This one allowed Robin Bell to make a lot more sense.

I did wonder why the interviewer wanted to go down what was an obvious blind alley of the benefits of a kind of digital enlarger that only projected the image but allowed the magic of darkroom printing. Robin eventually managed to persuade him that the simpler method if dodging and burning, contrast etc was the aim, was to project a film negative from an enlarger or did the interviewer simply decide not to pursue it further and risk some warranted tetchiness from Robin?

That part reminded me of the kind of questions often seen on Photrio from newcomers to film who seem to think that there is a magic combo of film, developer, type of paper and even specific cameras for almost every different occasion.

The other thing I found strange was why he, the interviewer, thought digital was defined by the production of identical prints at the press of a button and could not be done with analogue.

Yes, no two printers might produce exactly the same print from the same negative but in the case of straight prints there is no reason why 100 identical prints cannot be produced if that is what is required.
.
Finally interesting to hear someone who presumably knows, saying that trad darkrooms are being re-created in colleges and that an ex DeVere employee has commissioned a company in China to make replica DeVere enlargers.

If demand is that strong then things are looking up. I suppose that it much be that way as otherwise why would the likes of Ilford bother to produce MGV paper

It is just that from my solitary worm's eye view I have seen little evidence of a revival

Thanks for the links Nick and it should have been you I thanked for the 30 min video on Robin Bell. I had just seen Marty's post where he duplicates your link and likewise thanks you and all I picked up was his name and the link so 2+2 made 5
