Default Foma Pan 100 backing paper numbers

Dear Anyone!
I wondered if anyone might be able to clear something up for me?
I have taken the leap to try some medium format film photography on a Lubitel 2.
I loaded my first roll of Foma Pan 100 (120mm), and gently wound on.
I saw a series of arrows followed by two sets of dots - approx 5 starting large then reducing in size.

Then the number 2 appeared. I was expecting to see the number 1.

Can I assume it was user error and I simply missed the first frame (1 marker) or have I got something wrong? Or is the first frame indicated by the end of the second series of dots?

I will still go out and shoot anyway but obviously, as I only have 12 exposures, losing one is a it frustrating and I would like to avoid it on any future films.

No worries if no answer but hop it's OK to just put it on here and see if someone with experience has any advice.

Many thanks

Leggey

Hi.

I'm not familiar with Fomapan specifically (or the Lubitel) but yes, in general you would wind on to the (1) mark so I suspect you have accidentally missed the (1) marker in this case

Usually you would wind the film onto the take-up spool until an arrow on the backing paper lines up with a corresponding mark on the camera body and close the back. Then you wind on to the (1) marker - it is not far, so it would be easy to miss it the first time you ever do it.

That is just the general idea. Hopefully someone with Foma and/or Lubitel experience can give more specific help.

Cheers, Bob.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It's most likely user error as you say. It's not always easy to see through the red window and you'll be able to confirm it for yourself after processing.
I'm uploading a backing paper but this is of Tmax. It may be wise for you to keep hold of the backing papers of the various films you use for reference. Sorry, I don't have one for foma. The distance between the numbers appears to be; top 6x4.5, middle 6x6 and bottom 6x9 formats.

Hi and welcome to Fadu, I use Fomapan 200/400 as my main film abd the backing paper for all 3 films are the same, It is user error, what I do when using my TLR's or folders is to wind on till the start arrow appears, not the word start, wind beyond that untill you get an arrow across the backing paper, close the back then wind on, carefully, you will see an arrow pointing forward, then you will find 4 dots, starting large, count the arrows, after the smallest dot the number 1 comes, next frame till 12 is these same 4 dots, It is very easy to miss the frame number, I have done it myself with the red window cameras more times than I like to admit

Thank you. I have been out and taken a few shots and seen the number each time, so I am definitely at fault missing the first one.

Thank you for all of your replies, they are much appreciated.

Thank you.
