Congratulations Flak.
Is that a copy of mine or had somebody invented it before me? Either way it would be nice to see a photo of the finished article. I'll bet the 3d printing takes a lot less time to do than the couple of days it took me making a wooden one, allowing the glue to dry overnight etc.. Well done. Cheers.

My misplaced enthusiasm for cutting tapers has took us astray somewhat.
I would be interested in the answer to the original question. Who makes these cassettes with the taper wedge, and are they still made? Cheers.

I can only think that my memory is more defective than I thought or they were the 'Barfen' plastic cassettes. I had trouble with them jamming in the loader (A_P loader; a similar type I have also seen under the banner of LPL, Kaiser, Fuji) and reported on to the makers who could not find a reason for the problem. I disposed of them all through FADU. http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...ghlight=Barfen I also have a number of reloadable cassettes (mostly metal with uncrimped ends, some DX coded) that do have a slit in the spindle to take a shaped tongue. I cannot remember where I got them from. Mike Last edited by MikeHeller; 30th June 2021 at 10:37 AM. |

I think I'll settle with Barfen, then. Fortunately they don't jam either Watson or Füllfix loaders.

Nat here is the finished one , it took about an hour to draw up and about 2 hours to print.

I like it. I am a bit of a puddenhead when it comes to computers, so it's the slow wood and glue method for my projects. Well done Flak. Cheers.

Many years ago I was buy 35mm film in bulk and then loading it into reusable canisters. If I remember there was no tape used. Merely slip the end of the strip into the slot and wind. I would cut a tongue that I slid through the slot in the canister. I had two small blocks mounted on the work stand that I used to measure the film strip, 36 exposures plus the tongue. I used plastic canisters to store the individual rolls.

Brief update. The Barfen spools hold the film nice and securely, without tape. I've used two rolls with no issues.

Another bump, just to say that I found a Filmknips on eBay a couple of weeks ago, German seller. It arrived today and is more or less as new (worth ensuring dry storage). It cut an end perfectly for me and is going to make things a lot less fiddly. Maybe save infinitesimal amounts of film too. A Google search on Filmknips, limited to Images, produces a few photos that are as good as anything I can. Here's one.
