Another 'old' newbie!
Hello from yet another new joiner, an amateur photographer from the stone age, currently living in Kingston upon Thames.
I started out in photography in about 1954, using my Dad's old folding Kodak 120, developing the films using his Uncle's dev tank, which I still have, then printing contact prints. Easy then, out in the country, to black out a room. After several cameras I now have an OM-1, a Hasselblad 500CM, and an MPP Micro Technical Mark VII (5x4), all in occasional use. Up to 1990 I had access to my own darkroom, but not since then, and my kit has been in storage. I've reached that moment when I realise that the chances of me being able to have a darkroom again are slim. I'd like to continue with film, as I can still load tanks in the larder, and process in the kitchen, at a pinch, then scan. So the upshot is I have a load of darkroom kit that needs a new home. I guess I should post the details in another forum thread? Basically I'm looking for some advice from those who have trodden this path before, on whether my film-scanner plan will work, and how to dispose of the old darkroom kit. With thanks Gerald Lambert |

Hi Gerald and welcome. Sorry to hear that your darkroom days may be over but good that you are still a film user and processor.

You could contact local Schools as many like to teach 'Traditional Photography' -- I was given TWO enlargers and stuff and Wife has forbidden me to have any more so I tell donors to contact local schools

You can list here on the website under the For Sale thread. This is probably the best way to get direct contact with the people who are likely to use the equipment and if you are happy to let individual items go on there own then I am sure you will get some takers. I have found homes for darkroom stuff here.

I have almost been in your shoes with once having my own darkroom then a house moved dictated it was dismantled. I am happy to say that I now have another.
In the interim I still developed film and scanned it using a Nikon film scanner. Whilst these were OK - just - I never lost the desire to do things properly. I have yet to achieve what I would call satisfactory work using the digital method - I always felt the need to do things by hand to get the results I wanted. I would never go to fully digital unless of course the lack of materials prevented me. With the equipment you have and a flatbed scanner the images from the Hasselblad and the 5x4 with be completely indistinguishable from darkroom work. The 35mm - perhaps but not my first choice. |

Welcome to this rather splendid forum Gerald! I've only been on it for a few weeks but have found folk on here very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Hang onto as much of your darkroom as you can. It's a nightmare trying to get it all again when you realise giving up was a mistake...
