Default WANTED : Metz Mains Unit --

Anyone got any Mecablitz Hammerhead Flash gear gathering DUST? You may have what I want - the Mains Power Unit so I can run my flashes off the mains instead of the battery units -- I think the Number is : N21 or N20 to work with 45ct-1, 45CL-1, 45CL-4

Hi Pete, I could be wrong but as far as I know and I have the 60ct units, the power adapters are only for charging the ni-cad battery packs and are not designed or capable of running these flash units from the mains.

Marty -- you ARE wrong !!! There are the Battery Charging units such as marked '402.12 d 7v 450mA ' which plug into the base of the NiCad Battery unit then the MAINS Power units plug into a separate socket under flash head on the LEFT side -- there are DIFFERENT Holes for 45CT-1 and which needs N21 and then 45CL-1 and 45CL-3 and 45CL-4 I notice is different again and needs Power unit N22

The instruction manual for the 45 CT 5 indicates that it can use either the N20 or the N21 to power from an AC power supply, although I'd imagine that it's four generations on from the CT 1.

Well you learn something new every day.

You'd think they'd be readily available but they look thin on the ground.

I have 4 Battery Charging units now -- 2 I bought with my original 45CT-1 ( High Voltage one !) and when i got a 45 CL-3 they are marked 402.12 d 7V 450 mA, then there are 2 with GERMAN 2 pin plugs when I was given a several 45 CT units by a Camera Club Member and he got them from Germany and they both have only 120 V OR 220 V settings NO 240 V at all . ONE is marked TYP 729 7V 600mA and the other 402.12 i 8V 450mA ! All DIFFERENT !! There seems to be differences between the 45 CT series and the 45 CL series ----

In theory, but in practice it is still at a nominal 240V.

When the UK joined the EU there was "harmonization" to 230V across all EU countries but it was just classic bureaucratic sleight-of-hand. In practice, the +/- percentage allowances means that countries on 220V stayed on their existing 220V and the UK stayed on 240V. Not sure what happened in Eire.

At the moment, at peak evening demand, the voltage at my house is 239.8 volts. In general, the higher the demand, the lower the voltage drops to; measue it at 1am and it will likely be close to 250.

Plugging something intended for 220V 50Hz into a 240V 50Hz supply will almost certainly be perfectly fine (after all, it is well within the 10% difference from 230V allowed by the piece of paper ). But seriously, it will be fine.

BOB : Thanks for setting my mind at rest about using the German charger units at 220 V
