Default Minimum quantities of D74 per film

I’m about to dev a few types of film (6 sheets of 4x5) in d74 in my multitank 2 for rotary processing which needs 270ml+ of liquid. Does anyone know if 20ml of stock + 300ml of water would be sufficient to fully develop that much film?

Hi Adrian, I hope this will be of some help;
1 sheet 8x10"
= 4 sheets 4x5"
= 1 roll 120
= 1 roll 35mm

So you have the equivalent of one and a half rolls of 35mm or 120 roll film.

D74 is a motion picture first developer for reversal processing.

Do you mean D76. You need a minimum of 100ml stock per 80 sq in that[s 4 sheets of 5x4 or a rolll of 35mm or 120.

In your case use 1+1 and 150mm Stock and 150ml water.

Ian, I think Adrian is referring to Rollei D74.

OK, never seen that one. However it's misleading to use the same name D74, Kodak D74 is their recommended First developer for a few years now.

At 1+7 35ml developer and top up with Water to 280ml

Ian

Thanks. Yep. Rollei rhs-dc derived from Amaloco AM74. I have the data but there’s no info on how much per roll. I need as stated above to ensure my mix harps enough for 1.5 rolls. I’ve found some anecdotal comments about rollei rhs amounts which may possible be halved as the DC stands for double concentrate. But wanted to see what experience others had as I’m going in with 6 sheets.

Adrian, I could be way off base here but as D74 is clearly labled as a "one-shot developer" and the suggestion for the 1+7 dilution is 32.5ml of concentrate, I honestly don't see how 20ml of concentrate will be anywhere near enough to process 6 sheets of 4x5 properly.
I have tested tmax concentrate ranging from 35ml up to 250ml per film! And at the following dilutions: 1+4, 1+7, 1+9 & 1+15.
There was incredible uniformity across the board however the film with the 1+15 dilution needed +1stop extra exposure.
I posted the results here;

Actually the 1+7 is the old type. I have the newer 1+15. As it’s based on AM74 though and Rollei supergrain which I’ve used a fair bit is also based on AM74 I’m not that surprised. The supergrain bottle says you can get up to 60 rolls from a 500ml bottle which means 8.3ml per roll. And d74 is a double concentrated version of Rollei RHS. Robert Vonk (fotohuis) suggested on a forum somewhere that you could use it at 1+31. Here’s a filmdev recipe at 1:31: https://filmdev.org/recipe/show/9811

To clarify, I understand that AM74 = LP Supergrain = Rollei Supergrain = Rollei RHS = the earlier D74, and Rollei RHS-DC = the newer D74. (DC stands for Double Concentrate) which implies 4.15ml per roll!!! Seems pretty implausible though.

Hmm, I guess this recipe goes a long was to answering my own question though. Doesn’t seem too hard to get to a safe dilution with so much wriggle room.
