Default Cleaning Lens Cleaning Cloths

A couple of years ago I bought a "Baader Planetarium" lens cleaning kit.
It has fluid, a blue lens cloth and a brush in it.

The fluid and blue lens cloth are the best thing that I have found to clean smeary lenses.

Trouble is that I had to dismantle a shutter that had oily blades. On reassembling I gave the lens a final touch with the blue cloth but managed to touch the greasy thread of the focussing lens with the cloth.

Now I have a spot of grease someplace on the cloth and I am wondering what the best way is to wash it clean.
In the washer with the socks and detergent?
Or by hand with some miracle suds that will not harm lens coatings etc..

Any one got a tried and tested method of washing lens cleaning cloths?

Hi Nat I use the Ilford antistatic cloths and when they are dirty I fill the basin with warm water and I put a few squirts of hand cleaning soap in the basin and chuck the cloths and my white gloves in and wash them by hand , then rise out with water .the hand soap is quite mild ,that's why I use it .

The last glass cleaning cloth that I received, was with a new pair of glasses. From memory, on how to clean the cloth, it said to 'hand wash' and 'not to use fabric conditioner.'

I don't remember it saying what soap etc. to use, so I would use whatever is handy.

I am as bald as a coot, but I keep a bottle of Johnsons Baby Shampoo for when the dog gets seriously muddy.
A few drops of Johnsons Baby Shampoo on the lens cloth, a good hand wash, and rinse.

Works a treat. No smears at all.

Cheers all.
