And just received = many thanks Alex.
It's an interesting print that Alex has sent to me as it was taken on Efke 820 IR film; being shot at 4.5 ISO. The subject is a block of flats with a tree prominent in front of them. As expected the grass and foliage are rendered as white tones. Oh, and Alex had to take it from the position of a busy roundabout! LOL. It's a print that I like very much. My most recent judge experience for a shot of mine that is similar to this in the amount of sky and foreground shown, had the judge humming and arring, with an eventual comment of, 'Too much sky and too much foreground. I would have cropped in closer.' 'Nonsense!' was my immediate thought. If I had wanted to crop closer, I would have!! But that's judges eh? And luckily, we are all allowed our own thoughts. But I'm drifting. Many thanks for the print Alex. It's good to see something on Gloss surface paper as I have been a Pearl man for many, many years but currently I have gone down a notch and mostly do RC Oyster / Semi-Matt and FB Matt papers. It does bring back memories of my use of IR film some years ago though. I remember a lot of estimating of film speed with a lot of bracketing involved but I too liked the effect. Maybe I might try another roll or two over the sunnier months. Many thanks once more for the print itself. Terry S |

....and arrived today thank you Terry. Quite an air of mystery about the image showing an anonymous graffitied brick wall with a streak of sunlight across it. Terry provides a back story to the print (and also a helpful ‘top and bottom’ marking on the back) and useful technical info. The wall is from a partially destroyed lookout post on a coast near where he lives. A well printed study in light and shadow. Thanks again Terry.

My pleasure Tony.
I'm quite amazed some times how the Royal Mail gets post delivered so quickly. Terry S |

Thanks, Terry. I’m glad you liked the print. I have SFX loaded to try it’s IR potential when the sun returns. There’s an interesting graveyard near where I work, with links to Edgar Allen Poe (?!). I plan on visiting as soon as the light is right. I aim to return to my original practice of bracketing 3 shots for each frame. The usable EI seems to vary depending on how much IR is in the air. I hope to have some prints in the next few weeks.

And arrived yesterday. A spooky night shot of an empty space except for a ghostly cat which makes the space seem even emptier and deserted.
What variety of subjects I have in my collection of print swaps! Thanks, Mike |
