Tripods for MF SLR gear
OK, good responses for my questions over bags but how about tripods?
What do you recommend for my Bronica ETRS with lenses up to 20mm? I know therre are a lot of Bronica users out there. Thanks Andrew

Up to 20mm, I assume you mean 200mm?

A lightweight carbon fibre should do the job. I use a Manfrotto with my Bronica SQ. And with my 5x4 come to think of it. I would definitely choose carbon fibre over aluminium, for its vibration-damping qualities.

It all depends on how deep is your pocket and how much weight you are prepared to carry. I use only carbon fiber tripods these days as I like to keep the weight down but there are plenty of good aluminum tripods out there that are cheaper and will do the job just as well if you are happy to carry a tad more weight. The best place to start is to weigh your camera with its heaviest lens attached. Then look at tripods / heads tech specs and only buy those that suit the total weight of your camera + heaviest lens combo. You may find that a tripod + head combo that can carry say up to 5kg is a lot more affordable than one that takes say 6kg.

Yes 200mm - more haste less speed

Tripod weight and rigidity are very important, but so is ease of use. It was with those three factors in mind that I brought my Manfrotto 458b.

I am also looking at Feisol CF Tripods for use when travelling. My aluminium Gitzo is great but far too heavy to want to carry very far. You may also want to consider if you need a central column. Unnecessary weight if you don't need it.

I use manfroto 144, heavy but very rigid,as long as you are not wanting to carry it for miles, if I was walking a long distance I would use a monopod,Richard

I used a manfrotto 190 with my mamiya 645 setup, very good tripod, fairly light, amazing value.
