Default Homemade/ Makeshift Film Cassette Opener???

Hi All,

Was just wondering if anyone has ever come across or used a makeshift film cassette opener? I understand they are inexpensive to buy but was interested to see if there are any other options?

Thanks,

Luke

I've always used a bottle opener. I did buy one recently, however, that didn't work. Choose carefully!

I use a small pair of wire cutters about 4" long. I grip the edge of the cassette at the end where the spool does not protrude and simply twist sideways. They never fail.

I use the old style double ended pressed steel can/bottle opener that were used for evaporated milk, and beer before ring pulls, use the round not sharp end, bottle opener and the flat end of the cassette. They turn up for pennies second hand.
Also remember to use round ended scissors in a changing bag to avoid punctures.

Leave the leader sticking out and don't bother opening it.

My friend, who is a member here, has a modern 35mm camera that re-winds the film right back into the cassette. When I asked him how he opens the cassette he said he just rips it apart with his fingers.
They breed them tough up here in Yorkshire. Earlier this year he pushed my car up a 1 in 3 hill in the North York Moors.....Mind you, it's only a little car.....
