Never seen a Leica in the flesh, although they do look like lovely cameras.

As said, stuck in a cupboard to be looked at every now and again.

Shame that they cost so much otherwise more of us could get one and actually USE them!

A camera should be used!! Mind you if I had the money I would buy it!! That is why I swapped a grey Leica IIIck for an M6+lenses which I now use as my 'normal' camera.
However, I still say that the the Leica IIIs are aesthetically the best cameras I have ever handled and have a lovely sound when the shutter is released, something that even the M6 can't compete with. I still have a IIIf and must give it an airing and exercise!!

I used to work with a Leica collector and he would reject this as the cellophane packaging has been opened. He has 5 collectors Leicas and has never seen any of them as he wants to keep them sealed. He did have user Leicas such as M6 and M4.

My opinion of Leica cameras and their users changed when a well off friend of mine called in order for me to show him how to put in a new film into his camera. It was a Sunday so I guess the chemist shop was closed.

Vincent,
I was a Leica USER for over 45 years M3-MP versions and without doubt for me it's the only 35mm system I would use.
I sold all my Leica gear when Kodak stoped making HIE film.
I can load a Leica blindfold and I love them but they weren't paying for themselves so sold the lot, it's so much easier to make a fine print from the larger formats.

collectors are a breed of their own. Payying over 8000€ for something that shall not be used and is not a piece of art to f.ex. hang on the wall, is IMHO a sign of the mental disturbance that may follow with too much wealth.
That said my own Leica park has not been cheap (1 MP, 1 M3, 1 IIIg + various lenses) but I use them all intensively with the greatst pleasure. I rather feel guilty because of having also a substantial MF equipment which I've difficulties using - hope I shall discover one day how to appreciate them.

I heard recently that "Gangsta' Rappers" in New York are buying up old Leicas to wear on chains around their necks as "bling".
Now I don't condone drive-by shootings, but.........................

Although it is a fully functioning camera Leica know there is a collectors market and aim these models squarely at that market not at the everyday Leica users.

I know a Nikon collector and he has paid a lot more than that for several of his historic cameras.
